We are looking for wonderful new team members to join us for the 2025 summer season!
Each year we welcome up to four people to live and work on Vigur for the months of June, July and August. Full board is provided as is accommodation with shared bathroom and kitchen. The paid roles are to help us with the running of the cafe, tours and operations on the island, while the volunteer role is to help us with the growing volume of scientific monitoring and record keeping throughout the summer.
Working hours are erratic and often long. It is hard work but very rewarding. We are looking for people who can be flexible, self-starters who do not require detailed supervision or rigid schedules, team players who are enthusiastic to chip in with whatever needs doing, whenever it needs to be done and who thrive on the variety. But most of all we are looking for people who would relish the opportunity to spend some time in a very special part of the world and contribute directly to the preservation and protection of the nature and heritage that makes Vigur unique. Oh, and fun - we love those who are able to find fun in any situation!
Paid Roles
We need great people to help us with all the activities that take place on Vigur during the summer months. This varies from collecting eiderdown from across the island as part of the annual harvest in June, to baking traditional Icelandic rhubarb cake in the cafe, to re-stocking the shop and guiding guests, to helping with light maintenance of historic structures or assisting with scientific monitoring of birdlife.
We are only able to pay minimum wage but we do offer full board and shared accommodation as well as transport to and from the mainland as needed.
No previous experience is necessary but we do need people who are willing and able to commit to the full three-month period.
Volunteer role
We need a volunteer to join us to help with the scientific activities and record keeping on the island. Work will include nest and bird surveys as well as updating / creating records of collected information. Depending on interest and experience, many other responsibilities are possible including incubation of eggs, extending the herbarium, logging whale sightings and practical conservation work such as construction of artificial nesting habitats, anti-erosion measures and light maintenance of historic buildings.
Please note, this is a volunteer role, but we provide full board and shared accommodation as well as transport to and from the mainland as needed.
Previous relevant experience would be great but enthusiasm and aptitude is more important.
